Frilled Shark Rare Sighting in JapanWithout suffocating you with the same but important fact that these sharks are extremely rare, I shall tell you about a recent exciting sighting. On what seemed like a normal afternoon, one filled with the dull prospect of fishing, a rare and unearthly creature was caught. This day, January 27, 2007, was certainly no normal day, for the fisherman had found none other than a frilled shark. Immediately, the young Japanese Fisherman called headquarters at The Awashima Marine Park in Shizuoka, south of Tokyo. The young man reported seeing a strange eel like creature with several needle sharp teeth. The park officials immediately came and captured the five foot long specimen. The shark was identified as a female, in poor condition however. At the park, the shark swum around in a seawater pool for several hours before it unfortunately died. This gave the officials a few hours of fresh footage and of course a few hours of unparallel excitement. The shark died so soon because it had already been weakened, and was probably sick. This living fossil, may be one of the very few glimpses we humans have of the fast, for this creature has changed very little since prehistoric times. If that is the case, we should appreciate sightings like this for the rare commodities that they truly are.
